Rockin' the English countryside

Most of the time I spent in the UK was in London. I had dreams of journeys to the countryside, or to Brighton, maybe Oxford. Perhaps Stonehenge, and if I was really lucky, to a newly formed crop circle. Though I think you have to very vigilantly monitor the world wide web to find out when those "crop up" (sorry, but how could I not?)

Well, as it turned out, I had only one little trip outside of London to a fabulous musical venue called High Barn in the village of Great Bardfield, about an hour north east of London. Simon was playing a gig at the 12th century barn turned performance venue and recording studio. Django and I joined him for the journey.

You can see High Barn in the left of the picture.

Oh what incredible green!

Visiting the local church on our way into the village.

I'm a big fan of the thatched roof. These were the first ones I'd seen in England and I really like the decorative details which differ from the plain Danish style.

A cool old door.

Charming architecture

The local butcher shop

Posing in front of the pub where we had a tasty fish 'n chips dinner

Ahh.. a nice pint while waiting for food

Simon doing sound check at High Barn. You can see some of the original 800 year old wooden structure.

They just happen to have a recording studio just off the stage, so I was able to put Django to sleep in one of the sound proofed rooms and enjoy the show. I also joined Simon for a couple songs, which was a rare treat.

next stop, Paris!
