Zurich and beyond

Entering Switzerland

Swiss cows.

Coming into Zurich. There were cable cars (or road trains as Django called them) all through the city.

Chillin' at the hotel with raisins and cartoons.

Backstage.

Sound checking at the venue which is part of the hotel.

Performing for a happy audience.

The central train station, and the only one I've seen with a market. I bought some local mead which was from about an hour outside of Zurich.

Walking around the city.

This looked like a really wonderful organic vegan restaurant which we passed up after looking at the menu prices. Zurich is extremely expensive. We settled for falafel and pizza.

I liked this culinary window display.

So very organized.

A really cool fountain. It looked like one that supplies well water, and folks can fill up their water bottles.

Beautiful roof.

We took a quick half day trip to the edge of the Alps. I just couldn't be that close without getting a little closer.

First good glimpses.
(notice also the proliferation of chem trails. There were more chem trails around Zurich than we've seen anywhere)

Entering one of many under mountain tunnels. Some were rather long.

More Swiss cows. Happy cows I'd like to think.

We stopped in the town of Chur for dinner, then back to Zurich.

Goodbye Switzerland. Back to London then home after 4 1/2 months.

Somewhere in Germany

Simon had 3 days off during the second week of the Morcheeba tour, so we had some relaxed time to spend together. Jolene, one of Simon's managers, has family from Germany and her aunt offered us use of her apartment (she lives in California) in a small town called Weingarten (Baden) with a population of 10,000.

It's a really charming little town and we had a lovely few days.

Sunrise view from the apartment.

This area of Southern Germany is heavily industrial.

We drove to the top of the hill in town. I thought it was a bit of an odd configuration with the top of the hill devoted to fields of corn and grapes and the town situated down in the valley.

Pretty countryside.

Grapes from the local vineyard.

My boys in town.

Some friends coming to visit Django.

An odd creature that I guessed to be a muskrat, but I believe now to be a Nutria. There was only one of these, but numerous rats living along the rivers edge.

Charming German architecture.

There are two very large churches in town built right next to each other.

We came across a couple really cool old tractors. Django was rather excited.

A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS

We met a woman by the river in town who spoke some English and we had a friendly conversation with her. Upon departing company, I asked where in town we could buy a bottle of wine. It was Sunday and many stores were closed. She didn't think there was anywhere to get wine. "Where are you staying?" she asked. We told her, and she said she would bring us a bottle of the local wine. "What time do you want it?". "Ummmm, six o'clock.. thank you!" She drove by and delivered a 1 liter bottle of local wine.

It was quite nice and we enjoyed it. Such a random bit of kindness was very heartwarming.

After our three day break was over, we got on the road again, heading to Zurich for Simon's next performance.
